Health, Wellness, and Wholeness in the Music Studio
A new, comprehensive text on musicians’ health – January 31, 2025
by Gail Berenson (Author), Linda Cockey (Author), Charles Turon (Author)
Music Teachers National Association (MTNA) is pleased to introduce this valuable book that integrates important and recent research to consider in everyday healthy teaching. The information is based upon two models.
The Whole Student Paradigm illustrates Interconnections between the social, psychological, physiological, and lifestyle components of students’ lives that may affect their musical development.
The Functional Wholeness Continuum provides a means of evaluating each of these components in three zones: At Risk, In Development, and Reaching Independence. Written by three piano teachers who have advocated for musicians’ health and wellness for many years, the book is designed for studio teachers and students preparing for teaching careers.
These photos below were taken at the MTNA 2025 National Conference in Minneapolis, MN at the book release. Present were the three authors (Linda, Charles and me) and the President of MTNA, Dr. Gary Ingle (currently the former MTNA President).
